“No matter what your goals are, you must build strength in order to reach new levels of fitness,” says Mat Forzaglia from Forzag Fitness.

While strength isn’t something that happens overnight, with the right training program you can achieve results faster than you might expect. That’s why Mat created ‘Get Strong,’ a new four-week program designed to build strength in less time with minimal equipment.

What you need:

A single pair of medium or heavy dumbbells

How ‘Get Strong’ Works:

In this program, you’ll learn three highly-effective methods for boosting strength, which include eccentrics, isometrics, and burnouts. (You can learn more about Mat’s signature strategies here.)

In this program, you’ll complete two ‘Get Strong’ workouts per week with an active recovery or rest day in between. Those active recovery days could include light cardio, restorative yoga, or stretching. “If you challenge yourself beyond what you think you can do in these workouts then you should be wanting the rest day,” he says.

At the start of the program, Mat will take you through two foundational strength days that will build a base of strength. Then, the program will alternate between upper-body and lower-body workouts to strike the perfect balance of work and recovery. Towards the end of the program, Mat will have you tie together all the components of the program, then finish off with a “strength test” to see how far you’ve come.

The ‘Get Strong’ Class Plan:

  • Classes 1 and 2 will help build a strong foundation

  • Classes 3 through 6 will alternate between upper and lower body

  • Class 7 will review and combine everything you’ve seen in the program so far

  • Class 8 will be a “strength test”

To continue your progress after four weeks, simply repeat the program.
