3 great ways to work out with your kids

3 great ways to work out with your kids

You love to work out. You love your kids. Why not put two and two together? “Children are highly impressionable and asking them to do a few exercises with you throughout the week can help them understand that fitness, exercise, and family bonding can go together,” says Rick Richey, DHSc, MS, co-owner of RēCOVER in NYC and a youth exercise specialist.

The key to a successful kid-parent fitness date: have fun. “The moment it turns into what the kids could have done better, should have done, can't do, is the moment they imprint in their minds that this isn't for them,” says Richey. On the other hand, show them a good time and they’ll remember it when they get older and pass that valuable experience on to their own children. That’s why NEOU created NEO Kids. With us, making exercise a family affair is easy and most definitely fun.

Here, three ways to get your kids involved with your fave fitness platform.

“You GO, I GO” with Christi

Instructions:
Have your child pick his or her favorite bootcamp movement: high knees, squats, push-ups, etc. Have them complete the movement for 30 seconds, then you complete the movement for 30 seconds. One of you rests while the other exercises. Complete 3 rounds.

Pick ‘Em & Play ‘Em with Blake

Instructions:
Write the numbers 1 through 10 on pieces of paper and put them in a cup. Do the same thing with 10 different animal movements in a separate cup. (Frog hops, donkey kicks, crab walks, tiger tail hops, bunny hops, bear crawls, seal push-ups, duck walks, gorilla squats, flamingo hops). Have your child pick one piece of paper out of the number cup, and one from the animal cup. You both have to do that movement for that many reps.

“Remember the Animal” with Britney

Instructions:
Pick your favorite animal movement and have your child chose theirs. Complete 1 repetition of your animal and 1 repetition of their animal. Ask them to pick another animal to “add on” to the workout and complete 1 repetition each. Then add on another, and another. Continue until they lose track of all the animal moves they need to compete.
