The 30-day Holiday Survival Guide

The 30-day Holiday Survival Guide

Did you know that adults gain an average of one to two pounds between mid-November and mid-January? Of course you did. It happens to all of us! We don’t need to get into why it happens because you know that answer too. Let’s get right down to the solution: Follow a comprehensive workout plan that’s designed to strengthen, tone, and sculpt muscle while simultaneously burning calories and fat. Consider this your guide to beating the holiday bulge.

Heard enough? Get started with the 30-day Holiday Survival Guide on NEOU!

How it works

According to NEOU’s Director of Training, Christi Marraccini, this program was built to get real results during a chaotic holiday season. “Everyone can worry less about how to work out around the holidays and focus more on enjoying friends and family,” she says. “You can work out at home or on the road, and you don’t need much equipment at all.”

Christi’s program incorporates all of the essentials to staying fit and keeping the holiday weight gain away: strength, cardio, and restorative yoga and mobility.

Strength routines will have your body putting any extra calories to good use by sculpting muscle, while cardio sessions will burn up maximum calories. Stretching and yoga routines will ensure you’re recovering fast.

You’ll experience professional programming from other concepts on NEOU like KAMPS, MOVE, S2S, PUSH, Be Humble, Breathe and Be, Bells Up, and Forzag Fitness.

What you need

  • Light weight dumbbells

  • Medium weight dumbbells

  • Heavy weight dumbbells (optional)

  • Light weight kettlebells (optional)

What you will do

You’ll work out seven days a week - but don’t let that scare you! Five days are dedicated to training hard, while the other two days are for recovery. If you miss a day, simply pick up where you left off.

Days 1 - 7: Begins with bodyweight cardio, starts to integrate strength, then finishes up with mobility-focused stretching and recovery.

Days 8 - 14: The week starts with total body strength training, followed by the perfect dose of cardio. You’ll then transition into split routines for strength in the middle of the week, and finish with easy-to-follow restorative yoga.

Days 15 - 21: This week is all about total body workouts for strength and cardio. You’ll recover again with more restorative yoga.

The final push of days is a bit more flexible. Everything is bodyweight, so you can do them anywhere, anytime, with no equipment necessary.

Try these 4 workouts from the program

Day 1: “Tabata Your Boda”

Holiday Survival Guide program designer and NEOU Director of Training, Christi, helps you start off strong on the first day of the program. She’ll push and guide you through a cardio-based interval workout designed to challenge your entire body.

Day 11: “Humbling Complex”

All of that extra holiday food is going to be put to use by getting strong. In this 30-minute workout, Jay from Be Humble will lead you through several challenging (but accomplishable) exercises for strengthening nearly every muscle in your body. This workout can be performed with kettlebells, dumbbells, or both.

Day 24: “Bodyweight Bonanza”

Bodyweight Bonanza is exactly what it sounds like! In this total-body burner with Sam from S2S, all you need is 10 minutes and your own bodyweight. Yep, sounds like a perfect option for a travel workout or a quick sweat right before the party shows up.

Day 27: “Stretch It All Out”
